Summary: | The main activities carried out by the Institute in Jamaica during 2016 are identified, with respect to the needs and interests of the country, strengthening issues such as exports, trade, animal nutrition, silvopastoral, innovation, agribusiness, financing, pesticides, seed banks, local markets, resilience against climate change, health and food safety through the Codex Alimentarius. Likewise, medium and small businesses were supported, the management of food losses improved, the genetic improvement of herds and soil information for risk prevention were implemented. Finally, work was done on the sweet potato, coffee, cocoa, onion and potato value chains; plant quarantines and control of pests and diseases, such as coffee rust, cocoa frosty pod rot, mango fruit fly and avian influenza, were implemented.
