Description
Summary:The video describes the situation of forests in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, which total approximately 207 million hectares and whose forest exploitation only contributes 2.1% of the regional GDP. Despite the high value of forests, 60% of the rural population is poor and deforestation is increasing. To address these problems, the Sustainable Forest Management program of the Andean Region (MFS) has been created in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). This program seeks to increase the sustainability and economic contribution of forests through innovations, with projects in the four countries that promote gender equity, social inclusion and climate responsibility. Examples include forest conservation in Bolivia, the recovery of degraded areas in Colombia, the export of guayusa in Ecuador, and the development of tree growing technologies in Peru.
